The bureaucracy begins

Hello, editors. Most of you know that this wiki was started for /co/ and was intended for an adult audience. In hindsight it's obvious that a My Little Pony wiki will attract readers and editors under 18, and that's exactly what happened. Since we're a heterogenous group now, it's time to set community standards and guidelines. They will not be set by me; so far I've only enforced the Wikia terms of service against harassment and vandalism, but some editors have started enforcing content standards.

With that in mind, I invite everyone to participate in this thread and create "the constitution" for this wiki. Here are my thoughts:

  • No standards Lax standards for notability, verifiability, and reliable sources: this is not Wikipedia, nothing in here has to be verifiable, or even true sources shouldn't be insisted upon, unless the information is disputed. A referene section is not needed. In case references are wanted, they can be included. Primary sources and original research are welcome (for example my own documentation of Pinkie Pie's cartooniness.) [changes made -Throwawaytv 19:35, January 21, 2011 (UTC)]
  • R rated, but not X rated: shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker, tits. The terms of service allow harsh language, but not excessive harsh language. Use of adult themes and harsh language in a humorous tone should be allowed.

Those are my thoughts on content. We also need to set a guideline for the front page. So far I've managed it almost entirely to my liking, but the wiki needs a process where anyone can contribute to the front page. These sort of standards should be kept as simple as possible, yet flexible. Right now this is how I manage the front page:

  • A short, one or two-line welcome message and introduction to MLP FiM
  • An eye-pleasing image which links to some basic pages (currently Applejack, Twilight Sparkle, and Rainbow Dash)
  • Links to the main pages about the show - as few as possible so not to overwhelm visitors
  • I'm still unsure about the "merchandising" section, but I have nowhere else to put it, and it's pretty cool. I like the Derpy dolls and shoes.
  • Featured article - the wiki needs a guideline for deciding on this. Derpy Hooves seems like the natural choice to me for the forseeable future.
  • Media and external links
  • Footer with a brief single-sentence description of the site

There it is. My goal is to make the wiki a fun place to browse. If you've read sections I've written, you'd know I have a very dry style, which is why I can't personally make the articles fun. A few contributors tried injecting some humor here and there, but they were misunderstood and their edits were reverted. On that note, please share your ideas for the wiki's standards and guidelines, for content and for managing the front page. -Throwawaytv 08:19, January 4, 2011 (UTC)

Derpy back on front page plz!

Is this wikia forgetting its /co/ roots? For shame!

Derpy Hooves isn't just a pony. She's possibly the most powerful creature in all of Equestria. She can fly upside down, eat bad muffins without getting sick and lay eggs, if she feels like it. She has been seen warping the very fabric of time and space itself, creating clones of herself. Derpy is to Ponyville what The Stig is to Top Gear. You think Rainbow Dash is the awesomest pegasus pony around? Think twice.

I mean, Applebloom is cute and such, but her page has a clear link in the characters section already. Derpy doesn't: her page is only clickable from the background ponies section, and it's very easy to overlook.

Please, put Derpy back on the front page. The grey ol' gal deserves it.

Feeling Pinkie Keen

Could you please post the source of information about the upcoming episode? I can't find anything about it. People on /co/ probably wouldn't mind it too.--Nathan2000 23:35, January 20, 2011 (UTC)

Source, as far as I can tell, is http://www.cableaccesspr.com/Site/Networks_Grids/XLS%20(click%20here)/DKIDS.xls

Griffin the Brush-Off

The official episode name has the O capitalized. Please re-watch the episode again before you redo my edits, and you'll see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlKSDrjani8 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aura24 (talkcontribs) 08:35, January 28, 2011

I can't help but notice that the title in the episode doesn't have the dash. "Griffon the Brush Off".--Nathan2000 09:22, January 28, 2011 (UTC)
You are absolutely correct. As far as I'm concerned, the title in the opening credits shows the definitive spelling.
